Motorcyclist injured after impact with truck

"I didn't see them," that is the most common response when a car driver is cited for colliding with a motorcyclist. Although motorcyclists may be hard to see, this is no excuse not for always being alert and on the watch for them. Failing to do so could be deadly.

Recently, Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a crash scene in which a 27-year-old male motorcyclist was struck by a commercial vehicle. The motorcyclist was reportedly transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were likely significant, although no word was reported on the severity of said injuries resulting from the motorcycle accident.

One Ohio man was recently awarded $5.9 million as compensation for his critical injuries resulting from a commercial vehicle accident. The Ohio man suffered head and spinal cord damage. The settlement was awarded because it was determined that the commercial truck driver was negligent and reckless in his driving, thereby causing the accident.

$17 million settlement in boat crash that killed 2

In a post earlier this week, details were given regarding a Duck boat crash that killed two Hungarian tourists, including a 16-year-old girl that used her last few, precious seconds of life to attempt to save another. Just days after the opening arguments in the litigation, it is reported that a settlement has already been reached for this boating accident.

It appears that the two companies, Ride the Ducks and K-Sea Transportation Partners, will by paying a total of $17 million in damages. $15 million will go to be spilt by the families of the Hungarian tourists and the remaining $2 million will be divided up between 18 additional parties that were injured in the crash.

While boating accidents may not be as common as auto accidents in Ohio, this by no means indicates they are not occurring, particularly in light of the water ways of The Great Lakes becoming more congested. Often, boating accidents are the result of negligence of the operator.

In a 2010 boating accident that is now going through the litigation of a wrongful death trial in the wake of two Hungarian tourist that were killed in the crash, liability is yet unclear. The accident occurred in Pennsylvania when an unmanned barge crashed into a duck boat filled with tourists. Each company blames the other for the accident.

Ohio motorcycle rider killed by a driver changing lanes

Too many drivers forget about motorcycle riders being on the road, cut them off in traffic or do not yield to them the right of way. A recent Ohio fatal motorcycle accident likely came about because of a van crossing three lanes of traffic while trying to make a turn and then colliding directly with the motorcycle.

The victim of the accident was a 31-year old man. The accident occurred at 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. One other motorcyclist had to take actions to avoid a collision.

The pass lacks many basic pedestrian safety measures, including any crosswalks or pedestrian signals. Consequently, between 2007 and 2010, four fatal auto-pedestrian accidents occurred.

Currently in the planning stages, residents and business owners in the area are collaborating with Ohio Department of Transportation to remedy the deadly conditions. Although funding is tight, many rightfully feel that these changes need to be implemented to curb any additional loss of life.

Ohio woman rolls car, hits house, totals vehicle

An Ohio rollover accident that occurred yesterday left the victim of this single-car accident dazed but largely unharmed. Reportedly, the driver was turning when she veered too far left and rolled her car after overcorrecting. The woman then hit both a tree and a house. There was some damage to the gutter of the house and the car reportedly appears to be totaled upon initial inspection.

Vehicle rollovers can be terrifying and catastrophic. This woman is lucky she escaped with such little bodily damage. Her car and the house, however, are a different story. The woman could incur expenses as a result of the rollover, but it might not have been her fault.

The father and son were likely out for a leisurely boat ride when things went terribly wrong. The father and son tragically died when something went awry in their boat and it ignited. The exact cause of this boating accident remains unknown and is pending further investigation. This is a tragic reminder for all boating enthusiasts to have a plan in place in the event of an emergency.

As the days lengthen and the temperatures rise, many residents of Ohio are taking advantage of the waterways and going fishing or boating whether on Lake Erie or the Ohio River. While this can be both a relaxing and fun summer past time, the waterways are becoming more heavily trafficked so it is imperative to remember to employ proper safety procedure.

Fatal Ohio commercial vehicle accident

Drivers of smaller vans and passenger cars rarely have a shot at evading catastrophic injury or even death when they are confronted with a trucking accident. A recently departed 93-year-old man from Ohio was driving a van on the interstate when for unknown reasons he stopped in a driving lane. According to an autopsy of the 93-year-old victim, he died from injuries suffered after a semitrailer tractor truck collided with his van.

Reportedly, the truck saw that the van was stopped but could not break in time. According to Ohio police, no tickets have presently been issued. The factors surrounding this accident are largely unknown and absolutely unfortunate.
